Vamp wins NORT; Winners honored

Stamford, Conn., September 1, 2008 – Winners of the 74th running of the Vineyard Race will be honored today at a luncheon at the host Stamford Yacht Club starting at noon.

As of Monday morning winners of all classes had been determined.

Fifty six boats started the race Friday evening off Stamford. Of those, nine competed in the shorter Cornfield Point Race to Old Saybrook and back. The race is hosted by the Stamford YC and sponsored by Vineyard Vines.

In addition to the Vineyard and Cornfield Point trophies, the winner of the Northern Ocean Racing Trophy, Vamp, will be honored at the luncheon. Vamp, the J 44 sailed by Leonard Sitar of Storm Trysail, won the NORT by virtue of its performance all summer including the Vineyard Race.

The Vineyard Race was started in 1932 and is one of the top ocean-racing events of the season. It is the final qualifying race of the Northern Ocean Racing Trophy and the New England Lighthouse Series.
