Multihulls to be included in Vineyard

  • With a month to go before the start of the 76th Vineyard Race on Sept. 3 we wanted to keep you up to date on all that’s happening.
  • Multihulls will now be part of the Vineyard. We’ve amended the Notice of Race to include multihulls 27′ and longer.
  • We’ve added a youth category. Boats with more than half the crew between the ages of 14 and 19 will be eligible. Check the amended NOR for complete details.
  • We now offer three courses for the Vineyard. In addition to the Cornfield Point (116 nm) and the traditional Vineyard course (238nm) we have created the Seaflower Reef Course, 143 nm. It’s a great opportunity for those who want to compete in a distance race without the requirement of a life raft.
    • Dawn Riley will be our guest speaker at Thursday night’s skippers’ meeting. Be sure to join us at Stamford Yacht Club on Sept. 2 (Thursday) for dinner and to hear and meet Dawn. She has a very impressive sailing resume including several Whitbread races and America’s Cup campaigns.
    • Thomson Reuters has returned as presenting sponsor and will be helping us make this a fun event for competitors and families.
    • Don’t forget Sunday night’s arrival party and awards ceremony. We created this event last year and received great feedback so plan on being at Stamford Yacht Club Sunday night to catch up with friends and competitors.
    • Race tracking is back. We’ve signed up Kattack to provide this popular service so racers and families can follow the progress of the fleet.
