Friday night update

We have fast one on our hands this year. Here’s what’s happening:

  • On the Cornfield course all but one of the boats, Yumi, have rounded and are headed back. Pegasus is leading the back in nearly ideal conditions but faces an ebb tide. We expect the first Cornfield boat back by early morning.
  • On the Seaflower course all but three of the boats are around with Morning Glory leading the fleet back.
  • On the Vineyard course Rambler and Wizard are already around and on their way back.

So while the conditions have been ideal for the boats going out it will be less so coming back with a unfavorable current and wind direction. The wind speed, however, is ideal. At Ledge Light (New London) we’re seeing a steady 19 knots from the west. At the Vineyard turning mark at the entrance to Buzzards Bay it is currently blowing 17 knots.
