We just received word that Carina, the 48′ McCurdy and Rhodes aluminum sloop, is back.

After her successful effort in the 2010 Vineyard including winning the Northern Ocean Racing Trophy, owner Rives Potts took her around the world to race in the Fastnet and Sydney Hobart races. Rich DuMoulin, owner or Lora Ann, wrote a great piece about that campaign. Click here.

One great excerpt:

The Carina plan was to practice in the spring of 2011, racing the Block Island Race, Annapolis to Newport Race, and New York Yacht Club Regatta. Then we would do the Transatlantic Race 2011 and the Fastnet Race. For the Fastnet we also invited our British friend David Aisher, and from Newport the redoubtable Kiwi Chris Bouzaid. However, our plan was about to grow. In the fall of 2010, I was thinking that I had sailed almost every ocean race in the world, but never a Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. I emailed Rives: “When we finish the Fastnet in England, we are almost in Australia. Let’s do Sydney Hobart!”
